The Audemars Piguet x Swatch Royal Pop - a playful twist on the iconic Royal Oak

The collaboration between Swatch and Audemars Piguet has introduced one of the most unexpected and creative watch projects in recent years with the launch of the Royal Pop. Rather than simply recreating the iconic Royal Oak in colourful Bioceramic form, the two brands decided to reinterpret the concept entirely, transforming it into a playful and highly versatile pocket watch inspired by the vintage Swatch POP models of the 1990s. The result is a bold fusion of haute horlogerie heritage and modern pop culture, designed to be worn in multiple ways — around the neck, clipped to clothing or bags, displayed as a desk clock, or even adapted creatively by collectors themselves. Crafted with the unmistakable octagonal design language of the Royal Oak, the Royal Pop preserves signature details such as the exposed screws, Petite Tapisserie-inspired dial texture, and luminous baton-style hands, while adding a fresh and youthful personality through vibrant colour combinations and interchangeable accessories.

Beyond its unconventional appearance, the Royal Pop also introduces technical innovation. Inside the lightweight Bioceramic case beats a hand-wound version of the Sistem51 movement, known for its automated construction and impressive 90-hour power reserve. The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback and decorated with colourful pop-art graphics that reinforce the playful spirit of the collaboration. A particularly clever detail is the partially openworked barrel, allowing the wearer to visually monitor the mainspring tension as a natural power reserve indicator. Available in eight striking editions inspired by different colours and languages, the collection embraces individuality and creativity while remaining connected to the heritage of the Royal Oak. More than just another collaboration, the Royal Pop demonstrates how traditional watchmaking can evolve into something artistic, unconventional, and culturally engaging without losing its horological identity.
